Not a heap of winterovers left McMurdo at WINFLY, and due to the delays of the first flights of Mainbody, around 80 wintered folk ended up climbing aboard the first flight that made it to Antarctica! I was not one of them, but did ferry the passengers over miles of frozen sea to their flight of freedom. Some great faces left and some terrific new smiles came in. For those of us who have been in Antarctica, change is a big thing: We have moved dorm rooms, exchange familiar faces for fresh ones, rearranged job tasking, and put up with a barrage of extra people on station.
But, all this change means we are soon off to the lands of green grasses, rain, and warmth which most all of us are craving.
