After looking for a job for one year, I ended up in the place I started: Antarctica.
This time, a new adventure is unfolding which will bring me through a winter season:
no flights, no fresh food, no mail, no sunlight.
Travel, friends, and family await.

cistern and dinner

To end my day, I decided to visit the Basilica Cistern. A few people recommended that I see the place and it was pretty cool to sink beneath the city sidewalks and see the Cistern lit up. I did not expect my photos to turn out well, but actually came away with some great; albeit dark shots.

In the middle of all the pillars that hold the cavernous ceiling, there is one that has tears all over it.

And, at the end of the Cistern, there are two Medusa heads at the base of two pillars. No one is sure why they are there, or why one of them is upside down and the other on the side of her head.

When I arrived back at the hostel, Ancelo had offered to make dinner and so he grilled up some fresh Black Sea fishes and we had salad and fish for supper. I had a great time traipsing about in İstanbul for two days and meeting other tourists and seeing a broad history in front of me and under my feet!
