a closer look at the cargo

This one is for Laura. She is the Energy Engineer for the Antarctic Program. She's been working real hard at cutting down energy usage on station. She's responsible for the signs on the bathroom doors which kindly suggest we take four showers a week (apparently, water usage is notably down). She's also been trying to switch out light bulbs to more efficient varieties.

She informed me when we ran into each other in Christchurch that another project being worked on is putting is flushless urinals. It turns out that the unmarked crates (behind the seats in the photo) on my flight to Antarctica were carrying these precious efficient porcelain entities. This picture gives you an idea of what the interior of a C-17 Air Force cargo plane looks like.
