After looking for a job for one year, I ended up in the place I started: Antarctica.
This time, a new adventure is unfolding which will bring me through a winter season:
no flights, no fresh food, no mail, no sunlight.
Travel, friends, and family await.

wind pants at work

We are on our second significant storm in as many weeks. It is unusual for our circumstances to merit a Condition 1 weather category, but sustained winds were well above the 55 knots to attain the restrictive Condition 1 qualification. By the time we woke up this morning for work, the storm had been downgraded to Condition 2 which allows us all to travel to work. Some of the general town announcements this morning are as follows in reverse date/time order:
---

Attention McMurdo,

Due to the storm, we have lost power to Feeder C which provides power to the Seawater Intake pumps, which in turn provides the saltwater that gets R/O'd and then we get our water to drink, bathe, etc.
We're not sure when the status of this will change, so in the meantime we need to conserve as much water as possible.

Avoid taking showers until further notice. Meals will be served on paper plates so that the dish machine doesn't have to run. Toilets- "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down." Any other conserving of water is a necessity.

We will let you know as soon as the restrictions are lifted.

The BFC is out of clear lenses for goggles!

Everyone coming down with a winter contract, or who arrived at Winfly should have been issued a clear lens from the CDC. However, the BFC has issued our entire stock and many members of our community who work outside everyday are still in need. If for some reason you have two clear lenses or don't foresee yourself using the one you have, please return it to the BFC - or any BFCer you happen to see.

Thanks!

Condition 2 was set for McMurdo Station; Condition 1 remains in effect for all other locations.

There is a section of metal roofing that has come loose from bldg 125 near the BFC. Please avoid the area until wind conditions improve.

Wow, I must say that although it sounds like you're living through quite the adventure, right at this moment I'm not jealous! Sounds a little scary actually. I hope your water functions are back to normal soon!

I first thought your title was "wild pants at work" and I wasn't sure if you were going a little crazy or what. Sounds like that could work as your title too though! Yikes!
